Weekend Hiking At Broga Hill (Semenyih)

Weekend Hiking At Broga Hill (Semenyih)

Today I will be sharing on a hiking spot named Broga Hill, a relatively easy hike passing grassland trail and it is very popular hill among weekend hikers and fellow Instagrammer and Youtubers.

So, what is unique about this place? I must say, first is one of a kind " night-hike"(we'll go into the details later), really beautiful panorama views of the surrounding hill as well getting the opportunity to catch the golden sunrise view over the horizon (but you got to be at the summit before 630am though).

When arrive at the early hours (say 5am in morning), is always good for you to be ready and know where to find parking area. With just a little walking distance, you will reach the foothill of the Broga starting point. By the way, you will be surprised if you think arriving at 5-ish morning is a bit too early... usually quite a number of hikers would have already arrived way before that.

As I mentioned earlier, this is a one of a kind "night-hike". As we begin the ascend (about 520am), the trail is really pitch black and you will have to turn on your either headlamp or torchlight to make your way up through footpath.

To give you an idea, how dark the trail actually is (see picture below)
(Note: Remember to bring along the headlamp)

Hikers ascending the trail assisted with torchlight. There's a long queue of hikers in the trail as everyone need to move slow in the dark and holding on to the rope, so be patient and allow rest of the hikers the chance to go up safely.

I observed most hikers will attempt to reach the summit before 630am to catch the golden sunrise view.

Here's a snapshot of the sunrise view of the surrounding hill and residential areas. (The sun glow is starting to appear at the far side of the horizon)

Sun rise over the horizon (the surrounding areas started to glow in golden colour)

Saw a tired looking hiker looking back at me.... final few steps before reaching the peak of the hill.

If you ask me, I will say the early morning wake up (at 4am) and start preparing for the hike at 500am is definitely challenging and may not be a cup tea for some people. But to be able to hike up this hill in the darkness and then be able to witness firsthand the sunrise view is definitely worth every bit of sweats we put in.

The experience of being here and getting the opportunity to see this sunrise moment is just priceless.
Highly recommended to everyone.

Total hike duration:
It takes about 3hours to complete the trail.

How to get here:
Broga Hill (Bukit Broga) which is located in Semenyih, Selangor. Is about 30km from the Kuala Lumpur and 1hour of driving time.

Is quite easy to find the place, just Google/Waze Broga Hill (see below map). When you arrived, there are 2 places to choose from when comes to where to park your car.
  • Option 1: a privately own parking lot (you need to pay a fee of RM5 per person. A "toll collector" will approach you to pay for the fees)
  • Option 2: a public parking owned by MPK (which is free). This carpark is located about 400m away from the private car with a separate entrance.

Things to prepare before the hike:
  • Headlamp and torchlight are a must to have for those of you that are planning to hike in the wee hours of the morning to catch the sunrise.
  • At least 1.5litre of waters for hydration purposes.
  • Mosquito repellant for those that have "sweet blood" as you will be a magnet for the large swarm of mosquitoes.
  • Optional walking sticks/poles.
