Hiking at Ketumbar Hill - Cheras (Kuala Lumpur)

Hello there,

Is weekend again, so instead of sleeping late or just wasting time scrolling news on handphone, why not consider going for a short hike to de-stressed yourself after a long working week. This time around, I will be introducing a trail name Ketumbar Hill.

Here's a morning view of the KL city from one of few look-out spots.

Is a relatively easy trail to hike with distance of less than 3km and height of approx. 200+m. This trail is very popular especially during weekend as you will encounter many hikers of various age group doing their morning walk and then proceed to having "Yum cha" or breakfast at nearby coffeeshop.

The trails are marked and there's rope stretch out along various part of the trails to assist hikers to ascend/descend on some difficult spot.

Starting point of the trail:

Along of the hiking trail, you will find lots of big rocks in the surrounding area. So, please do be extra careful when passing through as it can be quite slippery as many of the rocks has moss growing on it.

It takes less than 1hour to reach the top of the Ketumbar Hill. Just before you reach the top main part of hill (ie. the resting place with gym and stall selling drinks), you will very likely come across the wild habitants of the forest - the famous wild boars.

What surprises me was that the wild boar's family seems unafraid of human presence as they just continue their business of foraging food in the forest and don't seem to be bothered by large crowd of people taking photos around it.

Interesting to also to note, when you reached the top of the hill. Do lookout for the fancy and colorful umbrella which I must say, is kindda add some vibrancy and colors to the place.

Also, there's an "outdoor gym" too with some home-made "weightlifting gear" and "dumbbell" build by some of the local residents here. I must say those fellas are very imaginative - building the gym gear with very basic raw materials.

Do remember to always to be safe, stay hydrated and have fun.

Total hike duration:
  • All in all, the duration of the hike from start to finish takes just slightly below 2 hours. As I said earlier, the trail is easy peasy to walk and you will hardly break a sweat. Even small kid can hike this place. So, do give it a try.

How to get here:
  • Ketumber Hill is located Cheras areas which is approx. 20km from Kuala Lumpur city center.
  • To find the place, just do a look up on Google/Waze for condo name Ketumbar Heights which is just beside the foothill of Ketumbar Hill.
  • Parking is a challenge though due to close proximity to few blocks of flats/apartment around these areas.

What to prepare and bring before the hike:
  • Literally, just a comfortable pair walking shoe and a bottle of water for hydration purpose. As it can be covered within less than 2hours, so, take it easy here.
  • Walking stick/pole will come handy,
  • There's a small little hut at the top of hill selling refreshments and snacks.
