 Sungai Tekala Waterfall (Hutan Rekreasi  Sungai Tekala)


I must say that before I come here for the very first time, I have very low expectation on what Sungai Tekala has to offer. Well, I guess sometimes is good to be proven wrong, hahaha! 

This recreational area does come with few basic facilities like gazebo, toilets, BBQ and camping areas as well as well-built walking path along the waterfall trails. And forestry area and waterfall are really well maintained, crystal clean water and plus lots of available spots for picnic/swimming.


Trail distance/duration

  • I don't know how long the entire trail was, but my hike was a very short one (less than 1km from entrance) with mostly cemented pathway except for upper part of the trail (which is mostly dirt/mud)
  • In total, we spend about 3 hours here (short hike + swimming + picnic)
 

Available amenities /facilities in the park

The trail is fairly easy to walk with lots of staircase all the way up to the various waterfall's spots upstream.

You need to walk about 15-20min and from here onward you can start looking at any waterfall spot that you like and make it as your swimming cum picnic area. (Note: Continue walking up if you want less crowded space and way cleaner water - if you know what I meant)



As you walk up the trail, you will come across many picnic spots which have areas for swimming/bathing in the crystal-clear mountain water amid the lush forest greenery.

There are few gazebos near the waterfall area which can be use as place for picnic.
(Note: Do remember to you bring back with you the leftovers and food wrappers for hygiene purposes)

While walking further upstream, I saw this stretch of the walkway where odd looking roots of the trees growing on the surface of the ground.

I really love this arch bridge as it has the kind of rusty look and green moss growing over it - giving it a very special greenery look.



If you go further up the river upstream, it become quieter due to most people stopping at the midpoint area of the waterfall. However, if you the adventurous type, you can always explore it. (here's how some of the areas look like) 




This is the further spot I managed to hike to... decided to turn back as it become too creepy with the loud insects sounds and barely anyone body venture this far upstream. (Note: Spooky enough to think perhaps there's the Predator creature camouflaged behind some tree and ready to hunt for its next prey). 

 

How to get here

  • Pull out your Waze and key-in "Hutan Rekreasi Sungai Tekala" and that will lead you here. 
  • Estimate driving time if you are coming from KL/PJ is about 1+hour! 
  • Drive toward the Semenyih town and you will be passing through the famous Nirvana Memorial Park. The road leading to the Sungai Tekala area are through forested areas, hence you get to have a scenic drive.


Parking Area

  • Carpark spots are quite limited but is free (literally right in front of the entrance areas of the park). Otherwise, I observe lots of latecomers just park their car beside the main road.
  • There are also no entrance fees to visit the park.

Things to prepare before you come:

  • As this is a popular waterfall area, I'm assuming you will be in for a swim. Hence, do bring along spare dry clothes as well as a pair of flip-flops. 
  • Do bring along your (aka tapau) own food and refreshments. 
  • A floor mattress or mat if you want to sit down and have a nice picnic outing :-)
  • In case you lazy to prepare it at home, there are some stalls at the entrance area where you can buy food/refreshment from in case of need it.

Fun Hiking at Bukit Jugra, Banting (Selangor)

Hello there, This week, I would like to share with you an interesting hiking trail named Bukit Jugra (or Jugra Hill) in Banting, Selangor.  Is relatively a small hill with height of 120 MASL but don't let the small elevation fool you. The hill actually covers quite a large area with multiple hills in it and trail is surprisingly challenging. The terrains have "never ending" up/down path that makes it a bit nerve wrecking especially when you have weak knees.... hahaha! If you asked me, I would rate this trail as medium difficulties and requires approximately 3-4 hours to go through the entire loop (Bukit Jugra, Rajawali Peak) plus detour to the Jugra Lighthouse site. Hiking at Bukit Wawasan (Puchong, Selangor)

Weekend Hiking at Bukit Wawasan (Wawasan Hill) Wawasan Hill (Bukit Wawasan) is a relatively small hill situated in Puchong Bandar Puteri residential area and has an average height of 233 meters and loop distance of just under 2km. What's interesting here. This trail is fairly short with small elevation here and there. Hence, if you just want to get a feel of hiking and sound of forest insects, this gentle trail will be the place for you. Don't rush it - just take time to stop, view the vegetation and enjoy the cooling weather in the hill.  Just before the end of the trail, do take a small pause... there's a small little creek (pond), where you can see lots of tortoises.  Let's start to explore the trail. Weekend Hiking At Kerinchi Trail (Kuala Lumpur)

Hello fellow hikers & friends, For this hiking article, I will be introducing to you a trail name Bukit Kerinchi (officially known as Taman Rimba Kerinchi) located at the edge of KL city center. Kerinchi trail is a fairly easy to hike as the Kerinchi-Bukit Gasing loop distance is just about 3-4km. This trail is very popular especially during weekend as you will encounter many groups of hikers of various age and size doing their morning walk.  What I really like Kerinchi trail compared to the Jalan Gasing trail is that is much easier to get there when driving with ample free parking space. (Note: As comparison, on some occasion, I saw many cars got summon issued when they park at the residential roadside in Jalan Gasing area). From the starting point of the hike, you will immediately start to notice that the facilities here is much better (ie. public toilet, picnic areas, both concrete and steel walkway, designated parking lots) which make your starting hike point much easier. Hiking at Gunung Datuk (Rembau, Negeri Sembilan)

Weekend Hiking Excursion to Gunung Datuk    Summary & Highlights  Gunung Datuk has a height of 885masl (meter above sea level) and trail distance of approx. 4.5km and offers a 360 panoramic of surrounding hills and forest of Negeri Sembilan. Hiking at Shah Alam Community Forest (Shah Alam, Selangor)

Hello fellow hikers and friends, In this article, I will be sharing with you one of my favorites hiking trails located within the vicinity of Setia Alam, Shah Alam. This very popular trail is named Shah Alam Community Forest (aka SACF) .   Note: View of surrounding housing and hills are from The Wall  This particular hiking areas offer few trails of interest - highlight will be the like of Peak Garden, The Wall, Mirror Lake and Bukit Sapu Tangan. You can opt to go just to either one of these places or all of them in one go depending on the time you have. If you cover entire loop areas, it will be approximately 10km. The hike is relatively easy/moderate depending on the trails you use (Trail A, B & C) and I did see quite a few families bringing their small kids along with them especially going to Mirror Lake for picnic.
